The Best Gift for Children - A Kid’s Gift Basket Part II

By Corina Volegna

The winter months are upon us once again and the holidays are fast approaching. It’s time to select original and thoughtful gifts for our friends and family. You want to stay within your budget and also delight the person who receives the gift. The children’s gift basket is a great idea for this; you can display multiple presents in a unique style and you don’t have to spend a fortune to do so.

Part 1 should have helped you pick out the things that you will need. Now come the step by step instructions for a simple and fun home-made gift basket! The final step is to decorate your basket. You will need some bright wrapping paper and tape to complete the decorating procedure.

Step 3 - Preparing the Basket

Now for the last step in creating an outstanding gift for any child. For an example, I will use my niece’s basket. Keep in mind that you can vary the basket based on the recipient, so don’t be afraid to be creative with the individual pieces. For my niece’s basket I got some chocolate candies, a scarf and hat that matched, and a plush cat for the centerpiece. You can chose something different for the presents, but this is a good prototype. You can start by lining the bottom of the basket with some wrapping paper. I chose a bright red paper and cut a hole in the middle where the paper goes around the plush kitty centerpiece. Next, sprinkle some chocolate around the basket on top of the wrapping paper. Place the plush toy, in this case, a cat, in the center of the basket so that it is elevated, in the center of the basket, and possibly hanging over the outside of the basket. If your centerpiece gift needs more height, you can place some wrapping paper under the liner. This is especially important if your plush toy is lying down. Once you have your main gift (the cat) in a position that you think looks good, you can add more candy around it.

The next items are the hat and scarf. I chose to put them on the stuffed cat because kid’s clothing is usually quite small. It also looks really cute. If your gift is in a season other than winter, you can still get creative with your practical gift. For instance, if your gift recipient has a summer birthday, you could dress up your plush toy centerpiece with a baseball cap, some cool shades, or a child’s bow tie. Once you have arranged everything in the basket to your satisfaction, it is time for the finishing decorating touches. For my niece’s basket, I chose to add a garland around the rim of the basket for some holiday cheer, but you can get as creative as you’d like. For the final touch, place the basket on a large sheet of wrapping paper, then pull the corners of the paper to the top of the basket and tie the paper together with a large red bow.

Now you’re done. It is really simple to make this terrific present for kids and it can even save you some money! If you have to buy presents for multiple children, then you can buy in bulk. You can get a jumbo bag of candy for less per piece, and if you plan ahead, you can often buy “family packs” on sale. Some websites have “buy one, get one free” deals on stuffed animals, and that can really help! So the kid’s gift basket is not only personal and charming, but it can also be affordable!
