Simple Mother's Day Gift Ideas for Kids
By Corina Volegna
With Mother’s Day approaching, we have an opportunity to show our love and appreciation for Mom and all the things that she does for us throughout the year. It is also a great opportunity to show that same appreciation for grandmothers and other special people in our lives. Mothers have a tough job. They have to provide for both physical and emotional needs for their children. They have to be a nurse, teacher, maid, cook, and friend . It’s important to make Mother’s Day as special as possible. For those of us with younger children, it’s important to help them with the shopping and preparing necessary for that special Mother’s Day gift. Even if your children have the enthusiasm to provide the best Mother’s Day gift ever, it can be hard to know where to start. Here are a couple of cute ideas that are simple, yet sure to please even the pickiest Moms. Plus, the kids can have fun creating these special projects. Your Special Cruise Card As stated earlier, Moms have a tough job. It would be great if we could provide them with a cruise on the Mediterranean or in the Bahamas, but that may be a little out of the price range for most of us. This idea allows Mom to have a virtual cruise with the sentiment, if not the actual location. Your child or children can easily put together a “Photo Cruise” for Mom, with a little help from you. Start with a piece of plain white construction paper and some crayons. Let the kids draw their very own luxury liner for Mom. Although they should certainly feel free to use their imaginations, they could also use some pointers to make sure they include some key features like the main deck, a pool, and some lounge chairs. Let the kids name the boat to personalize it. What Mom wouldn’t like to receive “Mom’s Big Sunny Boat?” Next you can add some pictures of various family members, including pets, to take the cruise with Mom. Maybe Dad is relaxing on the deck with the family dog, the kids are looking out of some port windows, and the cat is fishing off of the starboard deck. Now all you need is a cute handwritten note from the kids (with help from you as needed) and you’re all set. This is a terrific craft project for kids of all ages and skill levels, and it certainly won’t break the bank. Plus it makes a terrific keepsake that Mom can treasure for many years. Teddy Bear Mother and Child If the cruise ship craft project doesn’t seem to be your thing, maybe you could try the teddy bear family. You will need two different size bears, one small and one large, some construction paper, preferably red, some ribbons, and some magic markers or crayons. Connect the two bears with the ribbon to show the close ties between Mom and her child. Feel free to add extra small bears if you have more than one child. Help your child cut a heart out of the construction paper (or a flower if you prefer.) Next have the child add a sentimental message to the construction paper cutout. Finally, use the remaining ribbon to tie the cutout to the bears. You could even make it look as though the baby bear is giving the message to Mama Bear. Any mother is sure to be touched by a gift that is as cute and personal as this one! Moms love getting gifts that were handmade by their offspring, and the sentiment alone in such a gift makes it invaluable. We hope that you enjoyed these simple, yet fabulous Mother’s Day gift ideas. Both of the ideas outlined above are a great way to show Mom how much you love her, regardless of the age or artistic skill of the children who create them. The items used are easily available and inexpensive. Plus these gifts can become treasured keepsakes for years to come and will serve as a reminder of how much she is loved on Mother’s Day and every other day! |
